What is accelerated learning?
Accelerated learning is using the brain more effectively to achieve a faster learning rate.
We believe that our brain learns at a particular rate, because that is how we learnt at school. In fact, the speed of learning can be increased by understanding how the brain learns best and fully utilising its abilities.
The brain is a complex network of fibres spanning thousands of miles.
If we layed out the entire length of the fibres then it would be approximately 90, 000 miles! That’s 8 times round the coastline, plus an extra 1,416 miles!
Learning happens at the junctions or synapses between the neurons.
Have you heard the phrase ‘sparks fly?’ That’s referring to the connections happening in the brain.
Every time you review something, for example: repeating someone’s name, different sets of neurons fire simultaneuously, which strengthens the pathways that connect them.
There are lots of things that we can do that will automatically accelerate learning:
Accelerated learning techniques. Mind Maps – Using colour, shape and symbols to link pieces of information together. Memory Pegs – Creating a mental ‘hook’ to hang the information, this then acts as a reminder. Using both sides of the brain. Multi sensory lea
5 Star Learning is an approach to learning that builds on all of the above principles. It has 5 key aspects and it is symbolised by this flower:
